Some may think it’s strange – but I love to run. There’s no better feeling than pushing your way through a tough 2-mile run, getting on a good sweat, and accomplishing the goal that you set for yourself. That’s pretty much the norm for me, but this Summer, I set a goal to run my first community 5K event in years. I accomplished that goal just a few short weeks ago, and now, I have signed up for my first marathon. 27.2 miles…in just 27 short days. Wait, what?

Introducing the EMHS Foundation Children’s Miracle Network Hospital 27.2 Mile “Miracle Marathon” happening over 27 days from Sept. 16 through Oct. 12. And the best part? Anyone can participate! You can do any type of movement, at any time of day, anywhere – alone or with friends and family, for one mile per day. Now that is my kind of marathon!

Why 27.2? Because it’s a true marathon – plus an extra mile for these very deserving kids. Not only will you be getting into better shape and feeling healthier throughout the marathon, you’ll be helping Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals save lives right here in Maine at your EMHS member hospitals.

I myself just went and signed up as a participant for this year’s 27.2 mile “Miracle Marathon” at www.miraclemarathon.org and it was extremely easy to get started. I set my personal fundraising goal, and even had the opportunity to sign up for a marathon starter pack that will provide you with a pedometer to track each step you take, as well as other great items for your marathon journey if you so choose.

I plan to run 1 mile during each day of the EMHS Foundation CMNH 27.2 mile “Miracle Marathon” as a personal goal, but you can accomplish your 1 mile per day however you would like, by running, walking, bicycling, swimming, kayaking, or another physical activity you enjoy.

Still need a little motivation? Here are 4 good reasons to participate in the Miracle Marathon:

  1. Save a Life – The funds that you raise with the Miracle Marathon benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital right in your community! No matter where you live, children’s hospitals depend on their communities support to provide the proper life-saving care for all kids.
  2. Get Healthy – Did you know that it only takes 3-4 weeks to make a habit stick? Sign up for the Miracle Marathon and allow healthy exercise be a part of your daily routine.
  3. It’s Flexible – We are all so busy these days, it’s sometimes hard to fit in a solid workout plan day after day. That’s why Miracle Marathon works with any kind of movement, at any time of day, anywhere in the world – alone, or with friends, family, community members or co-workers!
  4. Corporate Wellness – Looking for a fun team building activity? Miracle Marathon is an easy way for employees to get moving and feel healthy, all while helping to build a better community.

It’s time to take the challenge and join me on the marathon journey that is the EMHS CMNH 27.2 mile "Miracle Marathon”, September 16th thru October 12th. Be sure to register today at www.miraclemarathon.org.
