Caribou police said a man was issued a summons for having a fake inspection sticker Tuesday morning and "a horrible job was done trying to replicate a real one."

The department posted a picture of the fake inspection sticker on its Facebook page Tuesday. The post said the man was pulled over at about 8 a.m. by officer Chad Cochran and issued a summons to appear in court.

It's not the first time in recent months that police in Maine have charged someone with having a fake inspection sticker. In November, police said a Whitefield man used a piece of Styrofoam to make a fake inspection sticker.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office in September said an Ellsworth man tried to pass off part of a food carton as a valid motor vehicle inspection sticker.

When police in Livermore Falls charged a woman with the crime in April, the department used its Facebook page to give the woman "a B+ for her artistic abilities" and "an A for effort."
