Car Chase Causes Confusion and Then An Arrest

Earlier this week, State Police posted notices of a man they believed led them on a chase. But when Facebook and media outlets posted a suspect's picture, he notified police that he doesn't own it anymore!

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says State Police believe another man was driving the SUV that troopers chased in Durham on Tuesday. This after Edwin Duquette notified them that he had recently sold the SUV to a younger man. Duquette called police after seeing his picture on Facebook and in various news outlets. The vehicle's new owner also took the license plates.

Tuesday night, troopers arrested 35-year-old Wayne King of Waldoboro on two outstanding warrants, not related to the chase, after finding him hiding in a storage area of a Lewiston apartment house. The warrants are for not paying fines and for a probation violation. King's driver's license is suspended and has been several times in the past. He's being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.

McCausland says troopers are still looking for the SUV, which is described as a 1999 Purple Chevrolet Tracker. Anyone with any information about King or the location of the SUV is asked to call the State Police in Gray at 657-3030.
