Tom Hanks is sure to earn himself an Oscar nomination for his performance in director Paul Greengrass' 'Captain Phillips,' and the new trailer previews his riveting portrayal in this true-to-life tale of a captain facing Somali pirates.

In addition to the film's Oscar clout, IMAX and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that 'Captain Phillips' will be digitally re-mastered for release in select IMAX theaters worldwide, starting October 11. That way, you can experience this riveting story on a larger-than-life screen.

Hanks stars as Captain Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama, a US container ship that in 2009 was hijacked by Somali pirates. The film is based on Phillips' memoir, 'A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea,' and centers on the relationship between him and his primary captor, Muse (Barkhad Abdi). It's a story sure to be adrenaline pumping with casualties on both sides, as previewed in the new trailer. If the critics' praise plastered across the screen isn't enough to pique your interest, how about Hanks pleading with the pirates to take his life instead of his crew's?

'Captain Phillips' opens in theaters and select IMAX locations on October 11.
