Bangor High’s Cameron Stadium Grandstands Set for Demolition Starting Monday

The facelift of Cameron Stadium starts Monday. It begins with the demolition of the grandstands that were constructed in 1944.

Director of Business Services for Bangor Schools Alan Kochis has told Sportsradio 92.9TheTicket that phase one of the project calls for bleachers, a building behind the bleachers and new lights – although new lights will not be ready for 2013 fall football season. The Rams will need to play afternoon games or perhaps at Husson University.

Phase two of the project includes a turf field and two more lanes for the track that surrounds the field. It is uncertain when phase two will begin.

The first phase is a $1.5-million project. The money comes from fundraising by the Friends of Cameron Stadium group, a city approved bond and a school surplus account.

The Garland Street Field/Cameron Stadium was built back in 1944. Officials have been working for the past three years on plans to renovate the complex.
