Ongoing bridge work on Union Street in Bangor will affect traffic on I-95 this week.

The Maine DOT said in a news release Monday that the bridge project will lead to lane and ramp closures on the highway.

The DOT says the southbound passing lane will be closed from 7 p.m. Monday until 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

Crews on Tuesday will be grinding and prepping for paving, which will shut down the southbound off-ramp from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The northbound on-ramp will be closed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the northbound off-ramp will be closed to traffic from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The southbound off-ramp will shut down at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and reopen at 3 a.m. on Thursday. The northbound on-ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. on Thursday.

If time allows, crews on Wednesday will pave 15th Street, which is currently closed and will remain so until the project is complete with street lighting.

On Thursday, the northbound off-ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. until 4 a.m., and Sunset Avenue will be closed for paving. Traffic will be rerouted onto Autumn Park West.

Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work zone or seek an alternate route.

The 54-year-old overpass is being replaced with an $8.8 million span that will have an additional lane to relieve congestion, higher clearance for vehicles passing beneath on I-95 and six-foot sidewalks.
