Bess the Book Bus made a stop in Bangor on Tuesday and will continue to travel through Maine this month. The van travels the country, handing out free books to children. And the volunteers have a lot of fun doing it!

The bright yellow bus was at the Big Apple store on State Street in Bangor Tuesday afternoon and, in the course of two hours, was estimated to have given books to at least 100 children. I stopped by to see if I could help (Jim manages the store), and to chat with the volunteers who spend their time riding around the country, giving out free books.

Dave talked to us about how he got involved with the bus. And talks about how much he loves being a part of it! It must be a great way to spend your time. Although, I'd probably spend most of my time in the back, reading the books!

The folks at the store handed out popcorn, balloons, and backpacks full of goodies. And the kids had smiles a mile wide when they saw the books, the door painted to look like something out of a fairy tale, and then walked away with their choices.
