Police in Bath are searching for a man accused of striking another man in the face with a hammer.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Jason Mackenzie, 38, of Bath, police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

According to the release, last Wednesday at 1:20 a.m., police responded to 98 Union Street after reviving a report that man had been assaulted with a hammer.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, a 37-year-old man from Bowdoin, suffering from non-life threatening injuries to his facial area.

Police said Mackenzie and the victim had gotten into an argument at 98 Union Street. The two men went outside, and according to the release, Mackenzie then picked up a hammer and struck the victim several times.

Mackenzie fled the scene before officers arrived. Police have issued an arrest warrant charging him with aggravated assault.

The victim was treated and released from Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick.
