A Bath man faces charges after he posted nude photos of other people on the internet, according to police.

John Dunne Jr., 26, was arrested Friday on warrants for aggravated criminal invasion of computer privacy and theft.

Bath Police had been investigating several complaints regarding private images of local people (both minors and adults) on various internet websites.

Police say the majority of these images were posted without the person’s consent, which is a violation of Maine State Law T17A-511-A, or “Unauthorized Dissemination of Certain Private Images,” sometimes referred to as the “revenge porn” law, which was enacted last year.

In one of Dunne’s incidents, he is suspected of stealing a photo from a victim’s cell phone and posting it, according to police.

In other cases, private images were texted to others, such as ex-boyfriends or ex-girlfriends, who then either posted the pictures themselves or sent the images along to other people, with these images eventually making their way to a number of different internet websites.

Bath Police reminded people to safeguard their private images and not post any other people’s private images without their consent.  They also asked parents to reinforce with their teenage children the implications of sharing these types of photos with others.

Bath Police Officer Eric Bryan made the arrest.
