A Bates College student was pronounced dead after he was found unresponsive in his dorm room on Sunday.

James Jhun, who was born and raised in the Boston area, was in his senior year at the school.

Bates spokesman Kent Fischer says Jhun was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

“This is a terrible loss for his family and the entire Bates community," Fischer said in a statement. "We are working hard to provide support to his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Jhun would have graduated in May. He was pursuing a degree in environmental studies and health.

The cause of death is not yet known.
