The Bangor Red Cross Center sent out a message to Bangor area organizations asking to get the word out about today's blood collection.

The message was sent out via the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce that explains why today's blood collection is needed:

"Good Morning to All,

Here at the Red Cross we have a special drive today for the Maine Veterans Project that is goaled to bring in 35 units for hospital orders.

Many of these donors are coming from all over Maine and have canceled their appointments last night due to the weather.

Therefore, we are reaching out to any of our neighbors here near the center to see you can stimulate donors from your organization to come forward and donate. We are opened from 11am-4pm at the Bangor Center at 900 Hammond St, Bangor, ME 04401 and desperately need donors.

We thank you for all do in support of Blood Program and please know that by your reaching out today to your members you will have an immediate and direct impact on the lives of others for which we are extremely grateful."

The Maine Veterans Project is focused on reducing the number of Maine Veteran suicides as well as creating and promoting development projects for veterans.  Check out their website to find out more about the group.
