Starting today crews are going to work rehabbing the interior of the 101 year-old library.

Crews are working to create a more cohesive look in the Bangor Public Library. A grand staircase is being constructed to connect the original library, with the add-on that was built in 1997.The staircase is modeled after original architectural plans.

Librarians will spend the down time retagging and barcoding the library's collection of more than 500,000 books. The Bangor Public Library's online section is still available to cardholders.

The library will reopen January 4 2016.
