Police have arrested a Bangor man in connection with a Wednesday evening bomb threat that caused the evacuation of several downtown businesses.

Matthew Strout, 33, faces a felony terrorizing charge in realtion to the incident in Pickering Square, according to a news release from the Bangor Police Department.

Police say someone called the police department just after 7 p.m., Monday saying there was a bomb in Pickering Square. As a result police were forced to shut down Broad and Water Streets and businesses including Nocturnem Draft Haus and The New Waverly.

Police did a find a package in the square but determined it was harmless.

Strout remains at the Penobscot County Jail.
