The Top Five Comic Book Horror Stories For A Spoooooky Halloween

If there's one thing we've learned from our years on the Internet, it's that there's no aspect of comics that can't be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there's no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we're taking it upon ourselves to compile lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.

This week, we're finishing off Halloween Horror Month with a list of five great spooky stories -- mostly single issues! -- that you can read to get into a scary mood!

The First ‘Sailor Moon Crystal’ Trailer Lacks Toast But Is Otherwise Pretty Rad [Video]

I don't think that there's ever been a better time to be a fain of Sailor Moon. Not only is Viz releasing the classic 1992 animated series on Hulu -- uncut, with new subtitles and a new dub on the way -- but there's a new animated series set to debut next month, simulcast around the world as it airs in Japan. The show's called Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, and now, there's a trailer for it.

Unfortunately, the trailer lacks what I would consider to be the single most iconic image of not just Sailor Moon, but the entirety of anime. While Usagi does in fact run out of her house late for school there is no toast in her mouth. Other than that, though, it's pretty fantastic.

Hugh Jackman Takes On Magneto On WWE Monday Night Raw [Video]

If you were wondering whether the existence of a Jem movie and an impeding Gallery Edition hardcover of The Dark Knight Returns were in fact evidence that I had gained mysterious, reality-warping powers that allow me to control the world as we know it, yes. Yes I have. I am master of reality now. I mean, how else can you explain the fact that last night, Magneto showed up to challenge Wolverine to a battle on WWE's Monday Night Raw?

Okay, admittedly: It was actually professional wrestler (and Intellectual Savior of the Masses) Damien Sandow, in cosplay, confronting X-Men: Days of Future Past movie star Hugh Jackman, who responded by busting out a pretty sweet wrestling move. Still, that's close enough, and by "close enough," I mean it was the greatest thing I have ever seen.

Jem Movie cast

The ‘Jem’ Movie Has Cast Its Holograms, The Misfits Remain To Be Seen

EVERYONE SHUT UP THE JEM MOVIE HAS CAST THE HOLOGRAMS.

In the latest development from what is unquestionably the single most important news story of all time, the first round of casting has been announced for the upcoming Jem movie, and all four Holograms now have actresses assigned to their parts. Kimber, Shana and Aja will be played by Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko, respectively, while the title role of Jerrica Benton, alias Jem, will be played by Aubrey Peeples, who also appeared in SyFy's Sharknado.

This is not a joke. Jem is from Sharknado and Aja was Velma. This movie is officially being made for me, and the rest of you can deal with that.

The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library And Museum Opens Awesome ‘Calvin & Hobbes’ Exhibit: We Want To Go To There

Last Friday, the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at Ohio State University opened an incredible pair of exhibits featuring the art of Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson and Cul de Sac creator Richard Thompson, and I don't think I have ever wanted to go see an art exhibit more. Curators Jenny Robb and Caitlin McGurk have assembled an incredible collection of original art from Calvin and Hobbes organized by season, as well as Watterson's actual tools of the trade, featuring hilarious commentary by the man himself. Unfortunately, like many people in this world, I am nowhere near Columbus, Ohio.

The good news, however, is that the filmmakers behind Dear Mr. Watterson, a documentary about Calvin & Hobbes and its impact, were in attendance snapping pictures so that the rest of us could live vicariously through them. Check out a few of our favorites below!

‘Jem And The Holograms’ Creator Christy Marx Shut Out Of Live Action Movie

When the news broke about the announcement of a Jem and the Holograms movie, ComicsAlliance promised to stay on top of the story, and today, just in case the very idea of a Hollywood adaptation of Jem having its roles crowdsourced via Tumblr wasn't weird enough, we have now reached the second wrinkle of the story: Christy Marx, the original creator of Jem and the Holograms, won't be involved in the movie.

In a statement on her Facebook page that followed the announcement of Jon M. Chu's upcoming film, Marx revealed that she was informed of the movie a few days before the announcement and spoke to Chu about it, but that "no one in the entertainment arm of Hasbro wanted to talk to me, have me write for it, or at the very least consult on it."

Boom! Studios Unveils Its Emerald City Comicon 2014 Exclusives

Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con 2014 is just around the corner, and while I've been trying to figure out if I can make it to the very first Starbucks to complete my tour of original chain restaurant locations (I went to the first KFC back in 2005, there is a museum attached), the folks at Boom! Studios have been busy with a new set of variant covers! They'll be offering a handful of Emerald City exclusive covers at the show, and they're all pretty awesome.

Check below to see the roster of ECCC variants, including a Nirvana-inspired take on Adventure Time, a new look at Lumberjanes #1, a Punch-Out!! homage for Regular Show: Skips, and a new cover for The Midas Flesh #1 by Sex Criminals artist Chip Zdarsky!

North And Rugg Unleash Mecha Lumpy Space Princess In ‘Adventure Time’ #26 [Preview]

I think it's fair to say that the characters in Adventure Time are prone to making some pretty bad decisions. I mean, just the lack of tooth-brushing that we've seen in a show set in a place called "The Candy Kingdom" alone is enough to make you shake your head at the life choices Finn and Jake have made. Next week, though, when the Eisner award-winning Adventure Time comic book hits its 26th issue, writer Ryan North and artist Jim Rugg (who is doing a full AT arc following his backup in issue #10) lead Finn and Jake to make one of the most alarmingly and obviously terrible decisions that we've see yet -- and you can get a jump start on cringing right here at CA with the preview below.

And if that wasn't enough to get to read on, then trust me when I say that for one brief panel, this issue introduces what is undoubtedly the sensational character find of 2014: MECHA LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS.

San Francisco Celebrates Batkid’s Heartwarming Make-a-Wish Batman Adventure [Video]

If you want to kick off your weekend with some nice news that might just make you cry a little bit, you're in luck: Today in San Francisco, the Make-A-Wish foundation is helping a five year-old cancer patient named Miles live out a wish to become Batman. Thanks to the overwhelming support of volunteers, they've been able to send Miles on an adventure of rescuing citizens, battling supervillains and even getting the key to the city in an effort to give him the best day ever.

Even the San Francisco Chronicle has gotten into the act, printing a Gotham City Chronicle special edition that details Batkid's adventures, with stories by Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Brenda Starr and Perry White, apparently on loan to the West Coast from the Daily Planet. Check out the full page below, and get ready to awwww.
