‘Wiener-Dog’ Trailer: Greta Gerwig Welcomes You to the Doghouse
It’s been a little over 20 years since we were first introduced to Dawn Wiener, the subject of Todd Solondz’s cult indie favorite Welcome to the Dollhouse. Although we were led to believe Dawn Wiener was dead in the Solondz Cinematic Universe (thanks to the opening of Palindromes), she’s very much alive in the new trailer for Wiener-Dog, the semi-Dollhouse sequel in which the infinitely charming Greta Gerwig takes on the role originated by Heather Matarazzo.
Anton Yelchin and Brendan Gleeson to Star in Stephen King’s ‘Mr. Mercedes’ Series
It was initially reported sometime last year that Boston Public vet David E. Kelley is developing a limited event series based on Stephen King’s detective thriller Mr. Mercedes. The series now officially has a home with AT&T’s Audience Network, with Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin and Harry Potter’s Brendan Gleeson on board to play the lead roles.

Whether you’re looking to rent or own, there’s plenty of great stuff hitting DVD and Blu-ray next month. You can (and should) catch up with Disney’s wildly successful Zootopia, a smart animated flick with all-ages appeal, or if you’re looking for something a little more grown-up, check out acclaimed indie favorites like Anomalisa and 45 Years. For those in need of genre thrills, 10 Cloverfield Lane and Midnight Special are also hitting shelves next month. For all those titles and more, dig into our guide to June’s new DVD and Blu-ray releases.
‘The Conjuring 2’ Featurette Explores the Creepy True Story of the Enfield Haunting
Like its predecessor, The Conjuring 2 is based on an (allegedly) true story, with director James Wan moving the spooky action across the pond to London to explore the famous Enfield Poltergeist case. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return to reprise their roles as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, the latter of whom appears in a new featurette alongside two survivors of the actual haunting.
Kristen Stewart Solves Non-Mystery of Why She Didn’t Return for ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’
There’s a moment (spoiler, maybe?) in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, when Sam Claflin’s prince explains that Snow White is absent because staring at the magic mirror too much made her ill (what a diss). We then see a quick shot of Snow White from behind as she agonizes in front of the mirror, though her face remains obscured. If you’ve seen the film, then it’s easy to imagine why Snow White and the Huntsman star Kristen Stewart didn’t feel like reprising her role for the sequel, but she’s happy to spell it out for you, just in case.
SNL: Brie Larson and Kyle Mooney Are Every Headbanger You Knew in High School
Not only did Kyle Mooney’s sketch actually make it to air this week, but he finally gave us another update on the life of Chris Fitzpatrick, aka every high school kid you knew who was into Nu Metal and rap-rock. So what’s Chris up to now? He started a metal band over the summer with a couple of his equally obnoxious friends, and they want to crowd-fund their new homemade action flick, Johnny Shadow.
There’s a ‘Slender Man’ Movie in the Works, Obviously
Honestly, it’s surprising it took this long for a studio to begin developing a horror movie based on Slender Man, the creepy meme that took on a prolific life of its own, inspiring countless photoshopped images, fan art, fan fiction and eventually a video game and a documentary. As rumored yesterday and confirmed today, Screen Gems is the studio that will finally put Slender Man on the big screen, though given how quickly things tend to age in internet years, you have to wonder if this horror movie will still feel relevant by the time it hits theaters.
‘The Mummy’ Reboot’s Official Synopsis Teases Gods and Monsters and Tom Cruise
Just yesterday we learned that Russell Crowe is in talks to play Dr. Jekyll opposite Tom Cruise in The Mummy, and while Universal has yet to confirm that casting, they have released the first official synopsis for the reboot. The plot description makes some hefty promises for Alex Kurtzman’s directorial debut, which is meant to kickstart a new shared universe of action-packed horror movies based on the studio’s classic monsters.
‘The Omen’ Prequel Film Will Introduce You to ‘The First Omen’
The First Omen isn’t the greatest title — it’s as if it was concocted by an obnoxious internet commenter who only speaks in all-caps. There’s something insistent and sort of presumptuous about “First” in that title, and while yet another film — a prequel, no less — based on iconic horror classic The Omen is enough to trigger an eye roll, there’s reason to give this one the benefit of the doubt.
