The bill's sponsor, Rep. Michelle Dunphy of Old Town, says there are many benefits to bringing passenger rail service to Bangor.

“Passenger rail is fuel efficient, relieves pressure on our roads and provides an affordable alternative for commuters and visitors alike,” Dunphy told the Bangor Daily News.

The BDN reports all four of the city's representatives have signed on as co-sponsors.

The bill has also received the support of the City Council and the Maine Rail Transit Coalition.
