For the second time this week, parts of Maine are expected to get slammed by severe weather, including damaging winds, heavy downpours and hail.

The National Weather Service says a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Aroostook, Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties until 9 p.m.

WABI-TV5 meteorologist Chris Ewing says the storms could bring 60 mph wind gusts, hail, torrential rain and frequent dangerous lightning.

Severe storms on Monday led to several reports of tornadoes in Maine, including a confirmed tornado in Aroostook County.

The storms knocked out power to more than 2,000 Emera Maine customers. The utility said strong gusty winds and torrential rains caused trees and branches to come down onto power lines.

The entire state was under a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the day.
