Anne Frank’s Stepsister Comments on Justin Bieber Guestbook Controversy

Justin Bieber
Pacific Coast News

Another person not outraged by Justin Bieber‘s insensitive guestbook gaffe at the Anne Frank Museum, where he wrote that he hoped the Holocaust victim would’ve been a Bieleber, is Frank’s stepsister Eva Schloss. In fact, she thinks her sister would have been a Belieber.

Schloss, whose stepfather was Frank’s father Otto, called the drama surrounding The Biebs’ poorly executed comment “so childish,” telling The Telegraph (quote via E!), “She probably would have been a fan. Why not?”

“He’s a young man and she was a young girl, and she liked film stars and music,” Schloss said. “They make a lot of fuss about everything that is connected with Anne Frank.”

So while Frank’s diaries were emblematic of the Nazi occupation and of World War II, she was not solely defined by the fact that she was trying to evade the Nazis by hiding in a small building for years. She had interests like other teens her age, which further highlights her tragedy. If Frank had grown up in a different era, all signs point to the fact that she’d probably have been a Bieber fan, and that’s suggested by someone who knew her.

Was the guestbook gaffe much ado about nada? Maybe. So back off, haters.

A little background on Eva – she had been friends with Frank prior to the war, and her mother married Otto Frank after the war ended.

Additionally, details have come to light about why Biebs wrote what he did. A source told E! that The Biebs’ comment was really innocent and born of something said on site. “One of the guides pointed out that Anne was a big fan of pop culture of her time and that she might have been a fan of his, which led to what he wrote,” the insider said. Ah, so maybe that’s what inspired JB’s comment.

PopCushers and Beliebers, does the fact that someone who knew Anne Frank defended Biebs make you think differently of his comment?

We’ve said it before. This issue probably taught Beliebers a lot about a historical figure and that’s a good thing.

Also, morning radio icon and ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge Howard Stern spoke about the controversy this week, saying that Bieber should be left alone about the comments. Stern was impressed that a famous 18-year-old actually took the time to visit the Anne Frank House, since his peers probably wouldn’t have done so. He even joked that if there is anything people should criticize the singer for, it’s his music, not a guestbook comment.
