Tonight’s episode of ‘American Idol’ (April 3) marked the beginning of Rock Week, and the remaining 7 contestants put their rock ‘n’ roll skills to the test.

The singers seemed to be a bit more comfortable with this week’s theme than they were with last week’s Motown theme. Their group performances were also much more cohesive and impressive. First, Angie Miller and Lazaro Arbos sang Queen’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love.’ Then, Burnell Taylor and Candice Glover jammed to ‘The Letter’ by the Box Tops. Finally, Amber Holcomb, Janelle Arthur and Kree Harrison teamed up to perform a striking version of Billy Joel’s ‘It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.’

Here’s the breakdown of the night’s individual acts:

Burnell Taylor: Read about his performance here.

Kree Harrison: Read about her performance here.

Janelle Arthur: She impressed the judges with an ear-pleasing rendition of Billy Joel’s ‘You May Be Right.’ Judge Keith Urban praised her for improving with each new week, showing colors she’s never shown before. Randy Jackson remarked that she exemplifies “authenticity at its best” and went on to say, “you’re real, you’re honest, you’re true to who you are.” He also wanted to steal Arthur’s fringe vest (and Nicki Minaj called dibs on her boots).

Lazaro Arbos: His passionate delivery of Queen’s ‘We Are the Champions’ captured the judges’ attention. All the panelists agreed that it was a great song choice, and Minaj even mentioned that she wanted to join him onstage for some salsa dancing.

Candice Glover: Despite having a broken toe, she delivered a flawless version of the Rolling Stones’ ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction).’ Minaj mentioned that the song choice put her to sleep, but she was still blown away by her amazing performance. “Rock is really an attitude, right?” asked Jackson. “You brought that rock, that attitude, in a Tina Turner kind of way.”

Amber Holcomb: Read about her performance here.

Angie Miller: She sang a passionate, haunting version of ‘Bring Me to Life’ by Evanescence. The judges agreed that it wasn’t her best performance, but it was a perfect song choice given the circumstances. “Your voice really did sound amazing,” said Minaj. “I hope next week, we get a chance to hear you like when you did Colton Dixon and when you did your original music, because that’s where you shine and that’s when I melt, but this one? Kudos. Congrats!”

Be sure to tune in to ‘American Idol’ tomorrow night (April 4) for the results show!
