Four people were sent to the hospital following a head-on collision on Route 2 in Hermon today.

The accident happened at around 9:30 this morning, near the intersection with Annis Road. WABI-TV reports a vehicle heading east on Route 2 crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on. There was a third vehicle involved in the crash that sustained only minor damage.

Each vehicle contained two people, and authorities say four of them were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.  Police say it appears everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.

Investigators say road conditions do not appear to have been a factor in the accident. Route 2 was closed for several hours following the crash.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
