Someone alert Mulder and Scully because it appears we have an unidentified object floating on the Presumpscot River in Westbrook. After a steady diet of frigid temperatures, Westbrook residents began noticing the peculiar, and rather large, ice circle floating along.

According to the Bangor Daily News, ice discs like the one seen above are not uncommon when atmospheric conditions are just right. It's something called rotational shear, where a chunk of ice is repeatedly spun around by flowing water creating a floating ice island of sorts. On Monday, birds were seen using the floating disc as a resting spot.

But for those with a more active imagination, the first sightings of the floating ice phenomenon was a little bit more frightening. Could it have been a visit from the final frontier? No, sorry. But if you get to see the ice disc in action, you can understand why people got a little uneasy. Luckily. Adam Farnsworth happened to catch it with a drone and shared it on Facebook.

So rest easy tonight Maine, there will be no little green men running wild in Westbrook tonight. We think.
