It was on this day in 1999 that Stephen King was hit by a van while walking.

Stephen was seriously injured while walking on the shoulder of the road in North Lovell. It was around 4:30 in the afternoon when a minivan lost control and struck Stephen from behind. The driver claimed to have been distracted by his dog.

Stephen went to Northern Cumberland Hospital, then flown to Central Maine Medical Center. Stephen was listed in serious but stable condition. Stephen suffered a collapsed lung, two fractures in his right leg below the knee, a broken right hip, a fractured pelvis, two broken ribs and a head laceration.

Now that's a horror story!

We're certainly happy to Stephen doing well 14 years after the accident. The whole incident seemed creepily similar to his 1987 novel Misery, minus the nut bag lady with a sledge hammer. You know what part I'm talking about...eek!

By the way, Stephen's novel turned TV show 'Under the Dome' premiers on CBS Monday June 24th.
