A Central Middle School student died earlier this week, after collapsing while running. Now, her classmates are remembering her by wearing purple, her favorite color.

According to her obituary, 12-year-old Katie Fugel of Corinth enjoyed competing with the track team, was a straight A student, and loved to sing. Her death was caused by a 'rare and major cardiac event.'

Now, her classmates and neighbors are remembering her. Athletes from the middle and high school sports teams plan to wear purple at upcoming events. There will be purple socks and purple wrist bands, to remember Katie. The 6th graders are getting involved too, with a local florist making up purple corsages and boutonnieres for an upcoming formal.

Services for Katie will be held on Monday.
